The London-based Mecom Group is one of the largest media companies in Europe. The company operates in Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Sweden and Ukraine.
The company owns more than 300 press titles, while the total weekly circulation of the newspapers owned by the Mecom Group is 30 million copies.
In Poland, MecomEurope has a majority interest in "Rzeczpospolita" (Mecom owns 51 percent, while the remaining 49 percent is owned by Przedsiębiorstwo Wydawnicze "Rzeczpospolita") and "Parkiet".
In June 2007, "Presspublica", majority-owned by Mecom, expanded its portfolio by acquiring the local daily "Życie Warszawy". Mecom also owns newspapers which belong to Media Regionalne - "Gazeta Pomorska", "Gazeta Współczesna", "Gazeta Lubuska", "Nowiny Gazety Codziennej", "Kurier Poranny", "Tygodnik Ostrołęcki", "Dziennik Wschodni", "Echo Dnia", "Nowa Trybuna Opolska", "Głos Dziennika Pomorza" and "Moje Miasto" (Szczecin). Mecom is also the owner of several new free weeklies: "Teraz Toruń", "Teraz Koszalin", "Teraz Słupsk", "Teraz Gorzów" and "Teraz Białystok”.
Mecom’s revenues in Poland in 2007 amounted to GBP 116 million (approx. PLN 538 million), which is 5 percent more than in 2006. The group’s operating income in Poland increased by 500 percent to GBP 6 million (approx. PLN 27.6 million).
The Mecom Group’s global revenues in 2007 amounted to GBP 1.352 billion, which is 3 percent more than in 2006. The company’s global operating income increased by 22 percent compared to 2006 and reached GBP 120 million.
